The Kenema Magistrate Court No. 1 has authorized the destruction of a large quantity of illegal drugs, including 9 kilograms of Cannabis Sativa.
This action, led by Magistrate Shiaka P. Kamara, aligns with the National Drugs Control Act of 2008, aiming to prevent dangerous substances from reentering the community.
The event took place under the jurisdiction of the Magistrate Court, with security provided by the Regional Police Commander for the Eastern Region, AIG Andrew M. Kamara.
Law enforcement agencies had recently seized the drugs during various raids and checkpoints in Kenema, with the confiscated substances forming part of a wider crackdown on illegal drug circulation.
Magistrate Kamara emphasized the need to destroy the drugs to prevent their reentry into the community, while DSP Mohamed Hindolo Feika, Regional Crime Officer, highlighted the court’s commitment to supporting the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) in fighting crime and promoting a healthy environment.
The burning, overseen by Magistrate Court staff and SLP Prosecutor Inspector Alphan Samuel Musa, attracted media attention and involved local stakeholders.
The event drew significant attention, underscoring the collaborative efforts between law enforcement and judicial authorities in tackling the serious challenge posed by illegal drugs in the community.
