Mohamed Koroma, a resident of No. 1 Thoronka Lane in Makeni, has been convicted by the High Court of Sierra Leone for academic fraud, with the potential of serving five years in prison or paying a fine of 50,000 Leones.
The ruling, which was held in the High Court of Sierra Leone in Makeni, was presided over by Honorable Justice Abubakarr Sannoh.
Koroma was caught attempting to take the Agricultural Science III paper of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) on behalf of Kelfala Yusuf Koroma, a registered candidate, on November 18, 2024.
Following his guilty plea, the court sentenced him to a fine of Fifty Thousand Leones (Le 50,000) or five years in prison. He is required to pay an immediate installment of Twenty Thousand Leones (Le 20,000), with the remaining Thirty Thousand Leones (Le 30,000) due within two years.
The ACC, who secures the conviction, has reiterated its commitment to tackling examination malpractice and corruption in Sierra Leone, emphasizing the importance of integrity in the educational system.
