A Sierra Leonean national has been arrested by Gambian immigration authorities after he allegedly fled with more than GMD1 million, equivalent to $14,000 belonging to his employer in The Gambia, according to information shared on the media.
Immigration officers at the Kerr Ayib border post arrested the suspect, identified as Ibrahim Buckle Kargbo, in the early hours of the morning at around 4 a.m. The arrest followed reports that Kargbo, who worked as a driver, had absconded with a large sum of money belonging to his Indian employer.
According to What’s On – Gambia, officers recovered only D42,000 from Kargbo at the time of his arrest. Authorities said the suspect told them that he had left the remaining money with a friend for safekeeping.

The report further stated that Kargbo was attempting to leave The Gambia en route to Senegal, with plans to continue onward to Sierra Leone. He allegedly intended to start a new life using the money.
Officials have not yet disclosed whether the remaining funds have been recovered or whether additional arrests have been made in connection with the case. The matter remains under investigation.
