In a significant step toward combating drug trafficking in Sierra Leone, joint security personnel at the Bo Fallah Checkpoint arrested Mohamed Kamara, a resident of Njala, Kasama Village in Tikonko Chiefdom, Bo District, for allegedly attempting to transport two large bundles of dried leaves suspected to be Cannabis Sativa, commonly known as “jamba.”

The arrest occurred on the morning of Thursday, 28th November 2024, at approximately 08:00 hours, during a routine security check.

The illicit substance was discovered concealed in white and brown paper packaging and stored inside a large red sack.

Authorities described the size of the consignment as substantial, suggesting its potential for widespread distribution, which poses serious risks to public health and safety.

Following the arrest, Kamara and the seized substances were handed over to the Transnational Organized Crime Unit (TOCU) for further investigation.

The police are now working to determine the origin and intended destination of the consignment, as well as to uncover any networks or accomplices involved in the trafficking operation.

This arrest underscores the strategic importance of the Bo Fallah Checkpoint in curbing the transportation of illegal substances. It also highlights the unwavering commitment of Sierra Leone’s security forces to dismantling drug trafficking networks and ensuring the safety of communities.

The police are urging members of the public to report any suspicious activities that may assist in combating the threat of illicit drugs.

This collaborative approach, they emphasized, is crucial in creating a safer and more secure environment for all citizens.

The successful interception of this consignment serves as a powerful reminder of the role played by law enforcement agencies in upholding peace and security. As drug trafficking continues to evolve, Sierra Leone’s security forces remain dedicated to adapting and responding effectively to these challenges.
