Tension has escalated in Kono District following reports that a young man was allegedly shot and killed by a police officer at the Octea Mining Limited site in Gandon Park.
According to community members, the incident occurred at the mining location under circumstances that remain unclear. The officer, identified by local youths as “AJ,” is alleged to have discharged the firearm that led to the young man’s death.
Residents claim the officer had previously made threatening remarks toward individuals in the area. Some youths further alleged that he had earlier stated he would not leave Kono “without taking a life.” However, these claims have not been independently verified.
