A 41 year old Sierra Leonean, Thomas Foqbawa, has been sent to Pademba Road Correctional Centre on remand following his previous court appearance over allegations of fraudulent conversion involving a hefty thousands of Leones.
According to court documents, Foqbawa is faced with a single count charge under Section 20 (1) (1v) (a) of the Larceny Act of 1916. The section pertains to the dishonest conversion of property that has been entrusted to someone’s care.
According to the prosecution, between the 1st of May and the 30th of September, 2024, at Government Wharf in Freetown, Foqbawa unlawfully converted property worths fifty-eight thousand Leones (Le58,000.00) for his personal use.
During the court proceedings, which took place before presiding Magistrate Sahr Kekura, Foqbawa appeared without legal representation. Notably, no application for bail was submitted on his behalf. Magistrate Kekura denied bail, emphasizing the seriousness of the offense, and ordered that Foqbawa be held in custody as further investigations proceed.
As the prosecution has yet to present any witnesses, the case has been adjourned until Tuesday, 23rd April, 2025.
