Former Sierra Leonean Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Dr. Memunatu Pratt, was honoured with the title “Commander of Peace” at the 14th Edition of the Pan-African Leadership Symposium and Awards for Peace (PALESH) in Nigeria, 2025.

The award recognized her outstanding contributions to peacebuilding, diplomacy, and regional integration through cultural innovation.

Dr. Pratt delivered a powerful lecture titled “Leveraging Cultural Diplomacy: A Conceptual Approach Towards Sustainable Peace” on March 3, 2025, where she emphasized the importance of traditional, culture-based conflict resolution methods.

She argued that cultural diplomacy should be a central part of Africa’s peace strategies, linking it to Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) frameworks and advocating for a move away from militarized responses.

Themed “The Role of Good Governance and Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Mechanisms for Consolidating Peaceful Coexistence in Africa,” the PALESH event brought together African leaders, diplomats, and peacebuilders.

Dr. Pratt’s recognition not only celebrated her legacy but also elevated Sierra Leone’s profile as a key player in Africa’s peace and cultural diplomacy efforts.
