Two men, Harry Kallon and Foday Kallon, have been sent to the Pademba Road Prison in Freetown following a violent fight over the ownership of clothes, which left one man injured.
The accused men appeared before Magistrate John Manso Fornah at Pademba Road Court No. 2, where they were charged with three offences: wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, malicious wounding, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm, all contrary to Section 47 of the Offences Against the Person Act of 1861. The charges were read in court by Deputy Superintendent of Police Sorie Conteh, who is prosecuting the case on behalf of the state.
The prosecution called its first witness, Mohamed Kamara, an unemployed man, who told the court that he knew both accused persons and identified them in the dock. Kamara testified that on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at Walker Lane off Berwick Street in the Western Area of Freetown, he was allegedly assaulted by the two accused men following an argument over clothing.
According to Kamara, the dispute began when he was accused of wearing clothes that were said to belong to the second accused, Foday Kallon. He told the court that the argument later escalated into a physical fight involving the two accused men and another individual. Kamara said he sustained injuries during the incident.
Kamara further testified that he reported the matter to the police and made a statement. However, he told the court that the statement was neither read back to him nor explained by the police. He also informed the court that he later received medical treatment for the injuries he sustained during the alleged assault.
The prosecution’s second witness, Detective Josephus Musa, told the court that he attempted to obtain an additional caution statement from the first accused, Harry Kallon. Detective Musa said he informed the accused of his constitutional rights, including his right to legal representation. He identified the additional caution statement, which was tendered and admitted into evidence by the court.
After listening to the evidence presented by the prosecution, Magistrate John Manso Fornah refused bail, citing the seriousness of the offences. He ordered that both accused persons be remanded at the Pademba Road Prison.
The matter was adjourned to January 16, 2026, for further hearing.
