Justice Adrian Fisher at High Court No.1 has sentenced thirty-eight-year-old Mohamed Swarray, a cleaner at a microcredit finance company in Portee, to 25 years imprisonment at the Male Correctional Facility in Freetown for rape.

The convict, Swarray, was charged with rape, contrary to Section 6 of the Sexual Offences Act 2012 (Act No.12 of 2012), as repealed and replaced by Section 2(a)(ii) of the Sexual Offences Amendment Act 2019 (Act No.8 of 2019).

The charge sheet indicated that, on November 23rd, 2023, in Freetown, Swarray intentionally committed an act of sexual penetration on a woman without her consent.

The victim testified that she was raped by Swarray after she was detained at the microcredit office because she was unable to pay her loan after her daughter was sick and admitted in the hospital for several days.

Justice Fisher while giving the ruling stated that Swarray should not have been outside the community, as he took advantage of the victim’s vulnerable condition.

The court found sufficient evidence to convict him of the charge, and was sentenced to 25 years to the male correctional facility in Freetown.
