In a bid to strengthen local security, Mile 91 Police Division on Saturday 6th September 2025, launched a community outreach initiative in Rochen Kamandao, emphasizing the importance of active resident participation in crime prevention efforts.
Led by Detective Assistant Superintendent of Police (D/ASP) Mohamed V. Sannoh, the focus of the engagement was to educate residents on crime prevention and highlighting the Sierra Leone Police’s shift from a traditional force model to a community service approach.
During the event, D/ASP Sannoh stressed the vital role of community participation in effective policing. He urged residents to foster open communication with police officers, treat government property as their own, and remain vigilant against unlawful activities.
He called on community members to report thefts and other crimes promptly and to educate their children on honesty and the importance of abiding by the law.
Sergeant 14483 Swaray MS, the local crime officer, reinforced the message of partnership between the police and the community. He emphasized that trust and cooperation are key to successful policing, and encouraged residents to ask questions and report suspicious individuals or activities to authorities without hesitation.
Throughout the sensitization session, police officers shared strategies for crime prevention and reiterated the importance of collaborative efforts. The aim was clear: strengthen the partnership between law enforcement and residents of Rochen Kamandao to promote safety and security for all.
This initiative marks a significant step towards building mutual trust, especially as the police transition from a force-based approach to a community-oriented service. Community leaders, including the Section Chief, Village Headman, Women’s Leader (Sowai), and Youth Chairman, expressed their full support and committed to spreading the message of cooperation beyond the gathering, ensuring wider community engagement.
