A captivating event unfolded in the skies over the coastal town of Port Loko District, Lungi, as multiple witnesses reported a bright line or streak descending from the skies during the midday hours of Friday, 6th June, 2025.

Renowned content creator, commonly known as Hamza, first brought attention to the occurrence, stating, “3 hours ago, something just fell from the skies in Sierra Leone— landing in Lungi. What could it be? Just captured it.”

Adding to the curiosity, it appears that some residents in the capital, Freetown also experienced the mystery as prominent journalist and political figure, Sylvia Olayinka Blyden also confirmed her observation of the unusual sight.

“I also saw the pathway left in the skies this evening whilst seated in my verandah on Cockle Bay. It was so distinct like the jet stream left in the clouds when planes arrive and take off. However, that’s not the pathway planes use to arrive at Lungi. So, I was really intrigued at it. The stream went in direction over my roof and towards Lungi. Very bizarre,” she explained.

The reports have stirred curiosity among local residents, many of whom claimed to have witnessed the event. Speculation about the nature of the streak has been widespread, with several possible explanations emerging.

Experts suggested that the bright line could be attributed to a meteor entering the Earth’s atmosphere. As meteors burn up upon entry, they create a dazzling effect known as a shooting star.

Another possibility is that the streak may have originated from defunct satellites or space debris re-entering the atmosphere, which can also produce a bright trail as they disintegrate.

Some theorize further confirmed that the sighting might be a reflection of artificial lights from aircraft, drones, or even laser shows.

Local authorities have yet to provide an official statement regarding the event, leaving many to wonder about the true nature of what they witnessed.
