The National Public Health Agency (NPHA), with support from the Global Fund, has concluded a transformative workshop aimed at strengthening infection prevention and control (IPC) measures in hospitals across Sierra Leone.
Held from September 11 to 17 in Bo and Bombali Districts, the three-day training brought together healthcare workers from 31 hospitals nationwide under the guidance of the National Infection Prevention and Control Program. The workshop introduced the Rapid Improvement Methodology, a hands-on approach designed to drive sustainable quality improvements in hospital safety.
Participants were trained on ten key IPC areas, including environmental cleanliness, waste management, hand hygiene, decontamination of medical devices, and the proper use of personal protective equipment. These practices are critical in reducing healthcare-associated infections and safeguarding both patients and staff.
Facilitated by Isata Adama Bangura, a quality improvement expert and field epidemiologist, the sessions empowered participants to analyze root causes, design practical action plans, and implement long-term solutions.
