On Wednesday 22nd March 2023, Alimamy Fofonah, former police officer made another appearance before Magistrate Marke Ngegba at the Pademba Road Magistrate Court No.1 in Freetown.
The accused Alimamy Fofonah is before Magistrate Marke Ngegba for allegedly murdering his friend Yayah Jalloh by shooting him with a gun.
The accused is charged with one count charge of murder country to law.
According to the particulars of the offense, the accused on Wednesday 1 February 2023 at Bassa Town in Waterloo, unlawfully murdered Yayah Jalloh.
Delivery her testimony in court, a witness, Ramatulai Kargbo said she recognized the accused in the dock and recalled the said date, stating that on that fatal night, she went to a program that was held at Bassa Town Field in Waterloo where she came across the deceased who introduced the accused to him as his boss.
she added that the accused bought a drink for her adding that it was during the process that she saw the accused with a gun.
She further stated that the event was going on peacefully and they were enjoying themselves until 3: am when the accused told the deceased (Yayah Jalloh) to accompany him to an unknown place, and she decided to go with them.
Testifying further she said upon their arrival at the unknown place, the accused took out his gun from his pocket and threatened to shoot the deceased and he pleaded with the accused not to shoot.
Kargbo said she then ran to call other people and on her way going, she heard gunshots causing her to return to the scene and saw the deceased lying on the ground with blood oozing from his body but could not see the accused.
The witness said the deceased was rushed to the hospital for treatment and she went to the Waterloo Police Station to make a statement and was informed that Jalloh had passed away.
Defence Counsel J. M. Jengo was absent in court and so the matter was adjourned to Wednesday 29 March 2023 for cross-examination and the accused was remanded to the Male Correctional Center.
