The Sierra Leone Police have successfully remanded a young man named Abubakarr, who was declared wanted for allegedly stabbing his friend, Abdul Koroma, to death during an argument on Derrick Street, along Sackville Street in Freetown.

The incident occurred late on the night of Wednesday, when Abubakarr approached Kadiatu Koroma, the mother of the victim, seeking the return of Le50 he had previously entrusted to her for safekeeping. Kadiatu stated that she advised him to wait for his uncle to return home before retrieving the money.

As Abubakarr was leaving her premises, Kadiatu reported that her son, Abdul, confronted Abubakarr after overhearing him insult his mother. According to Kadiatu, Abubakarr denied the accusation and, while approaching his own nearby apartment, directed further insults at her.

Kadiatu alleged that Abubakarr, along with his aunt, Haja Bangura, then attacked her son. She claimed that they used an iron spoon and a stick to inflict serious injuries on Abdul. During the confrontation, Abubakarr allegedly stabbed Abdul in the chest on the left side, a wound that went deep and unnoticed at first due to the darkness of the night.

Kadiatu recounted, “When my son went there, Abubakarr together with one of his Aunty called Haja Bangura, joined force against my son and dealt with him.” She added that they only realized the severity of Abdul’s injury when they approached him later, discovering the deep wound and significant bleeding.

Following the incident, Abdul was rushed to the hospital after obtaining a medical report from the Eastern Police Division. Despite receiving medical attention, he bear the pain of his injuries any further, which led to his sudden death.

The police have since taken Abubakarr into custody, and he will remain remanded as investigations continue into this tragic incident.
