A suspected drug trafficker was arrested on Sunday, June 22, 2025, during a well-planned team effort by security forces at the Fallah Checkpoint along the Bo–Taiama Highway.

The man, identified as Santigie Bangura, also known as Santana, of 23 Charles Street, Centre 2, Freetown, was caught with five and a half kilograms of dried leaves believed to be Kush. The substance was carefully hidden beneath the seat of a Toyota CHR with registration number AWB 358.

According to police, the vehicle was stopped while heading towards Kenema. During questioning, the suspect admitted he was on his way to “run business” with his usual buyers.

He also told officers that he had only been involved in the drug trade for about three months, but explained that the Kush was made of several harmful ingredients. These include Mashmeleon leaves, fine C-L dust, and a green-and-yellow powdery chemical, all similar in appearance to Cannabis. Authorities say this points to a rising concern around how drugs like Kush are being mixed and sold.

The suspect and the car are now being held at the Regional Transnational Organized Crime Unit (TOCU) South. Investigations are ongoing, and detailed statements are being taken.

The Sierra Leone Police confirmed the arrest in a statement shared on social media.
