The Sierra Leone Police (SLP) at the Kissy Division have uncovered and dismantled a suspected criminal syndicate involved in the theft of commercial motorbikes and tricycles (commonly known as kekehs) in Freetown.
The operation followed a report of an alleged robbery with aggravation made on Tuesday, 7 April 2026, at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), Kissy Division. The complainant, Mohamed Santigie Kamara, reported that at about 1:00 a.m. at Drive One, New Low-Cost Housing, he was attacked by two individuals identified as Mohamed Bangura and an accomplice known as “Zipo,” who is currently at large.
According to the report, the complainant was assaulted and struck on the head with a machete, resulting in a serious injury to his left eye. He was subsequently assisted by commercial motorbike riders who responded to the scene. One of the suspects, Mohamed Bangura, was apprehended and taken to the Kissy Divisional Headquarters.
During police interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed to the crime and disclosed the existence of a wider criminal network involved in robbing motorbikes and kekehs across the city. He further provided intelligence that led the police to a compound located at No. 1 Railway Line, Rokupa, where the stolen items were allegedly being stored.
