A police investigator has testified in court against Emma Morlia Sesay, who stands accused of stealing a one-week, five-day-old baby boy.

The case was heard before Magistrate Santigie Bangura at Pademba Road Court No. 2, where Police Officer Dolly Faith Johnson provided key testimony against the accused.

Sesay is charged with one count of child stealing, contrary to Section 56 of the Offences Against the Person Act of 1861. According to court documents, she allegedly took the infant, Mustapha Sesay, without the consent of his parents.

Led in evidence by Prosecutor Sergeant 8811 Florence M. Wilson, Officer Johnson, an investigator attached to the Family Support Unit, Central Division, testified that she received a report from the baby’s mother, Martha Sesay, on November 13, 2024, stating that her child was missing.

Upon filing the report, Johnson instructed the complainant to search for the baby within 24 hours and provided her contact information for updates. The following day, November 14, 2024, she received a call from Inspector Josephine Joseph of Rogbane, Makeni Police Station, informing her that the accused had been arrested in possession of the missing child.

Later that day, Police Constable 12113 Fofanah transported the accused, the baby, and the complainant to the station. Johnson obtained a statement from Sesay, in which she allegedly admitted to the crime. This statement was tendered in court as Exhibit A1-8.

On January 20, 2025, Officer Johnson officially charged Sesay with child stealing, and the charge sheet was submitted as Exhibit B1-2.

Citing the serious nature of the offence, Magistrate Bangura denied bail to the accused. The case has been adjourned to February 5, 2025, for further hearings.

The case has drawn significant public attention, with many calling for strict penalties against child theft to ensure the protection of vulnerable children and their families.
