The Director of Traffic Management and Road Safety, Commissioner of Police (CP) Abdul Moijue, has issued a stern warning to traffic officers engaging in corrupt practices, emphasizing that disciplinary actions will be enforced against offenders.

Speaking at the Sierra Leone Police’s routine press briefing on Thursday, January 23, 2025, CP Moijue reminded journalists that traffic officers are not deployed to the streets to solicit or extort money from drivers but to perform their lawful duties, which include traffic control and law enforcement.

“We do not send them into the streets to collect money. We send them to do police work, such as controlling traffic and enforcing the law,” CP Moijue stated firmly.

He encouraged members of the public to report any officer found engaging in corrupt practices to the Complaints, Discipline, and Internal Investigations Department (CDIID).

CP Moijue further assured the public that any officer caught in such acts would face strict disciplinary measures in accordance with the 2001 Police Disciplinary Regulations.

He urged citizens to provide evidence, such as videos or photographs, to strengthen complaints and ensure accountability.

The warning comes amid growing concerns from motorists and the general public about allegations of extortion by some traffic officers.

CP Moijue reaffirmed the Sierra Leone Police’s commitment to maintaining discipline within its ranks and fostering trust between the police and the public.
