The Political Parties Regulation Commission (PPRC) has acknowledged the withdrawal of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP)’s request for the Commission to supervise and conduct its upcoming executive re-run elections.

The PPRC confirmed receipt of a letter jointly signed by the SLPP National Secretary-General and the National Chairman on March 18, 2025, informing them of this decision.

Despite the withdrawal, the PPRC emphasized that it would continue to monitor the re-run elections in accordance with its statutory mandate under Section 12(1)(2)(a-f) of the Political Parties Act No. 25 of 2022. The Commission reiterated its role in ensuring that all legal and procedural requirements are met during the election process.

The PPRC also took the opportunity to remind the SLPP of its constitutional obligations under Section 35(2) of the 1991 Constitution of Sierra Leone, which mandates political parties to uphold democratic principles in their internal organization. The Commission urged the party to ensure that its re-run election processes align with its constitution and the established rules and regulations governing executive elections.

To facilitate its monitoring and oversight responsibilities, the PPRC requested that the SLPP submit the election timelines at least three working days before the scheduled re-run elections. This, the Commission noted, would enable it to effectively prepare for supervision and ensure transparency in the process.

The Commission extended its best wishes to the SLPP for a successful re-run election and reaffirmed its commitment to promoting a transparent, peaceful, and credible electoral process in Sierra Leone.
