On the auspicious date of January 1st, 2024, the Pujehun Correctional Center witnessed the liberation of twenty-six male prisoners through a Presidential Pardon. The event was overseen by ASP Patricia Lombeh Kobba, the Support Officer of the Pujehun Police Division, along with her team.

During the release ceremony, ASP Patricia Lombeh Kobba delivered a heartfelt message to the former inmates, encouraging them to carry forward the positive transformations they underwent while incarcerated. She emphasized the importance of ∆integrating back into society as reformed individuals and cautioned against engaging in harmful activities like kush smoking that could jeopardize their well-being.

Augustine Songu, Manager of the Pujehun Correctional Center expressed gratitude to the police and various stakeholders present at the occasion. He highlighted the meticulous process involved in selecting the individuals for release, indicating that the recommendations were based on their criminal records and exemplary behavior exhibited during their time at the Correctional Center. All twenty-six names recommended by the Pujehun Division received approval, offering them a newfound chance to rebuild their lives beyond the prison walls.

The ceremony witnessed the presence of several dignitaries, including the Crime Officer, Operations Officer, O/C OSD of the Pujehun Police Division, Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) representatives, officials from the Office of National Security (ONS), members of the media, and the Chairman of the Drivers Union.

The release of these individuals marks a hopeful new chapter, prompting anticipation for their successful reintegration into society as law-abiding citizens.

In total, 76 inmates were released from the Southern Region, including thirty-eight (38) from the Bo Correctional Center, Seven (7) from the Mattru Jong Correctional Center, five (5) from Bonthe, and 26 from the Pujehun Correctional Center.

However, Sierra Leone’s President, Julius Maada Bio pardoned three hundred and fifty- two (352) inmates nationwide by Sections 40 (4) (e) and 63 of the 1991 Constitution of Sierra Leone Act No. 6.

Of the three hundred and fifty two (352), eleven (11) are females and 341 are males.
