The heavy downpour which started in the late hours of Friday July 28 into the early hours of Saturday July 29 2023 has caused disruption at the Old Road Market Square in Waterloo.
According to report, the market was flooded and traders were forced to flee as their stalls and shops were almost submerged due to the heavy rains.
Traders were unable to do their normal trading activities at the market.
Sierra Leone usually witness heavy downpour in July and August.
The West African country’s Meteorological Agency warned months ago that parts of the country could witness flooding due to heavy downpour.
The National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA) warned locals living in disaster prone areas to leave as the country braces for more rains in the coming weeks.
Sierra Leone has a tropical climate that has two seasons – wet and dry season. Heavy downpours and thunderstorms are recorded in the wet season.
