The Resident Minister of the North West Region, Mr. Umaru Bon Wurie, officially turned the sod for the construction of the North West Regional Police Administrative Headquarters in Port Loko City on 29th January.

The project, introduced under the leadership of the Inspector General of Police, Mr. William Fayia Sellu, is being spearheaded by the North West Regional Commander, Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Joseph Ibrahim Lahai, with the support of other senior police commanders.

The construction of the Regional Headquarters comes after years of operational challenges faced by the police in the region, including inadequate office space and persistent rent-related difficulties that have hindered administrative efficiency. Once completed, the new facility is expected to provide a permanent and conducive working environment, significantly enhancing police administration and service delivery across the North West Region.

The sod-turning ceremony attracted a wide range of dignitaries and stakeholders. In his remarks, the Resident Minister pledged a donation of one hundred (100) bags of cement to support the project. Other notable attendees included the Mayor of Port Loko City Council, Mr. Alie Badara Tarawally, Paramount Chiefs from the Maforkie and Bekeh Loko Chiefdoms, and representatives from various institutions.

Speaking at the event, Mayor Tarawally commended the Sierra Leone Police in Port Loko for their sustained efforts in maintaining peace and security in the city. He described the construction of the Regional Headquarters as a laudable initiative that would benefit not only the police but also residents of Port Loko City and the wider North West Region.

The Mayor further called on all stakeholders to take collective ownership of the project and ensure close supervision, stressing that it is neither an individual undertaking nor meant solely for the benefit of officers currently serving in Port Loko, as police personnel may be transferred at any time. He concluded by pledging his support for the project’s successful completion.

In a show of partnership and community support, the Deputy Director of the Amazonian Initiative Movement (AIM) donated fifty (50) bags of cement to kick-start the construction works.

The North West Regional Police Headquarters project is expected to significantly strengthen police administration and operational coordination in the region upon completion.
