Commercial motorbike riders in Bo on Tuesday protested the increase in their daily ticket fee from Le 2 to Le 5, saying the decision was introduced without proper consultation and clarity on how the additional charges would benefit them.

The protest drew the attention of security authorities, who engaged the riders in discussions to address their concerns. The Local Unit Commander of Bo West Division, Chief Superintendent of Police Augustine Kabia, and the Bo District Security Coordinator from the Office of National Security (ONS), Suahibu Koroma, were part of the meeting with the riders’ representatives.

During the engagement, the riders questioned what services they previously received under the Le 2 system and asked for explanation on what new benefits the Le 5 fee would cover. They also complained that many riders were unaware of the policy change before it was implemented.

Police officials noted that broader sensitisation and communication should have taken place ahead of the increase to avoid confusion and tension.

Calm later returned to the city following the dialogue, but discussions on the ticket fee are expected to continue between the riders and relevant authorities.
