Commercial motorbike riders in Bo on Tuesday protested the increase in their daily ticket fee from Le 2 to Le 5, saying the decision was introduced without proper consultation and clarity on how the additional charges would benefit them.
The protest drew the attention of security authorities, who engaged the riders in discussions to address their concerns. The Local Unit Commander of Bo West Division, Chief Superintendent of Police Augustine Kabia, and the Bo District Security Coordinator from the Office of National Security (ONS), Suahibu Koroma, were part of the meeting with the riders’ representatives.
During the engagement, the riders questioned what services they previously received under the Le 2 system and asked for explanation on what new benefits the Le 5 fee would cover. They also complained that many riders were unaware of the policy change before it was implemented.
Police officials noted that broader sensitisation and communication should have taken place ahead of the increase to avoid confusion and tension.
Calm later returned to the city following the dialogue, but discussions on the ticket fee are expected to continue between the riders and relevant authorities.

I see no reason why the daily ticket prices should increase to Nle 5.
Please, those that are benefiting from the Nle 2 tickets, if that money is not enough for you, please return to your village and start farming instead of being in a city harassing the poor riders.
Authorities concern, should put a stop to the sale of daily ticket at Nle 5 to avoid confusion and damages.
Seriously my brother
The issue of BRU is a total exploitation, harrassment on the riders.
We really want to hear from the government’s point of view as to how the BRU is really operating in this country.
Because for the maintenance of Law and order with regard the use of the road, the government has the police and the Road safety Corp to enforce law and order.
But, it seems to be the opposite.
So we also want to know if the existence of BRU was passed by an act of parliament or is it a Pressure group?
If it is by an act of parliament then it incumbent on all riders regardless of who you are to be a member but if it is the opposite, then the leadership need to inform us about the aims and objectives of being part of the union and they also need to inform the due payers about how their monies are being spent or else, this uprising will continue across the country
