In a triumphant display of academic prowess, Saint Stephen’s Technical and Vocational Secondary School has claimed the coveted first position in the Senior Secondary School Essay Competition held in Freetown.
The competition, organized by Premier Media in conjunction with the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education and funded by the European Union Delegation to Sierra Leone, witnessed the participation of 48 senior schools from across the nation.
The theme of the national essay competition, “How do you see yourself contributing to Sierra Leone’s development by the year 2030,” was embraced by three exceptional students from Saint Stephen’s, representing Pujehun District with remarkable finesse.
Principal Thomas Vandy Sannoh attributed the school’s victory to their longstanding commitment to delivering quality education since its establishment in 1975. He highlighted the meticulous efforts undertaken by both teachers and students as integral factors contributing to this achievement.
In recounting the journey to success, Principal Sannoh emphasized that the recent triumph in the national essay competition wasn’t an isolated event but rather a continuation of the school’s consistent victories in various external competitions over the years.
Mohamed Tiffa, a student at Saint Stephen’s, emerged as the winner of the Senior Secondary School Essay Competition, supported by teammates Hassanatu Bah and Alfred Gandhi.
Beyond the essay competition, the school has also excelled academically, securing 20 university and departmental requirements in the 2022/2023 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE). Notably, a substantial number of candidates achieved five credits, underscoring the school’s commitment to academic excellence.
Looking ahead, Principal Sannoh extended an invitation to former students to join in celebrating the school’s golden jubilee in 2025, celebrating 50 years of educational excellence.
Saint Stephen’s Technical and Vocational Secondary School’s recent triumph underscores its commitment to nurturing academic talent and contributing to the educational landscape of Sierra Leone.
