The Sierra Leone Scouts Association held its inaugural Regional Commissioners Council Retreat on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at the Native Administrative Court Barry, Kpanga Chiefdom, Pujehun District, in a significant move to enhance decentralization in service delivery

This year’s retreat, themed “Empowering Regional Leadership for a United Scouting Future,” attracted 16 regional commissioners along with hundreds of stakeholders and supporters of the scouting movement.

Welcoming participants, Town Chief Mustapha Koroma expressed gratitude for their commitment despite busy schedules. He emphasized the importance of scouting as a disciplined institution and commended the scouts for their contributions to society. Chief Koroma urged the scouting community to remain engaged in the administration of the district and the nation, while also calling on President Dr. Julius Maada Bio’s government to provide greater support for their volunteer work.

Pujehun District Commissioner Abdulai Jalsa Sillah shared his enthusiasm for hosting the retreat, noting that the district has more than a hundred active members eager to strengthen their role in the movement. He appealed to the national body for financial and logistical support to achieve their goals.

Delivering the keynote address, Deputy Chief Commissioner John Kanu described the retreat as a milestone in the development of scouting in Sierra Leone. He encouraged participants to use the gathering as an opportunity to advance the mission of scouting. He also outlined the retreat’s objectives, which included reviewing the constitution of the Regional Scout Council, conducting elections, and mapping out future plans.

The retreat concluded with the certification of dedicated members and a showcase of scouting talents, marking a successful effort to revitalize and strengthen the scouting movement in Sierra Leone.
