SHE4Peace, an organisation dedicated to promoting peace and gender equality, has today, 21st June, 2025, held an impactful seminar aimed at engaging men in the fight against sexual and gender-based violence.

The event, which took place during Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month, featured notable guest speaker Ibrahim Sannoh, the Minister of Youth Affairs.

The seminar, titled “Elevate Men’s Voices,” was led by SHE4Peace founder, Mariama Sahid. It aimed to create a platform for men to share their perspectives and experiences, emphasizing the importance of their involvement in addressing these critical issues in Sierra Leone.

“We are centring men’s voices in the fight to end sexual and gender-based violence,” Sahid stated, highlighting the necessity of inclusive dialogue.

The event was moderated by Madam Naasu Fofanah, a prominent figure and entrepreneur known for her inspiring work with Susue’s Coconut Chilli Oil. Fofanah’s leadership was notably pivotal in steering the discussions towards meaningful engagement.

Panelists included Marfoh Samai, John Konteh, Dr. Waheed Awonuga, Kanu Idrissa Saidu, and Bamie Joseph Florence Sesay, the Deputy Director of the Ministry of Gender and Children’s Affairs.

Each panelist reportedly contributed valuable insights into the challenges and solutions surrounding gender-based violence, fostering an environment of collaboration and support.

Sahid expressed gratitude to her dedicated team for their unwavering commitment to the cause. “We’ll make Sierra Leone free from mental instability with more dialogue, mindfulness and wellness sessions, and creative initiatives like painting sessions to heal our pain and bond beyond our problems,” Sahid emphasized.

The organization also acknowledged the support of its sponsors, including Rokel Commercial Bank, UBA Sierra Leone, PAN Studios, Grafton Spring Water, and the Anti-Glossophobia Academy, among others. Their contributions were reportedly crucial in making the seminar a success, and SHE4Peace hopes to expand the event next year.

Participants were encouraged to provide feedback and engage with potential partners, aiming for a larger and more impactful event in the future. “Together, we can foster a safer and more supportive environment for all,” the organization stated.
