A heavy storm has caused extensive damage to the UMC Primary School in Mobai Village, Kori Chiefdom, Moyamba District, disrupting learning activities and leaving the school community in distress.
The incident occurred on the afternoon of Saturday, April 11, 2026, when strong winds swept through the area, completely unroofing four classrooms, as well as the staffroom, office, and store.
A teacher at the school, Johanse Kainesie Fogbai, said the storm struck suddenly, with powerful winds tearing off the roofing structure and exposing the building to the elements. He described the damage as severe, noting that teaching and learning have been significantly affected.
“There is extensive damage, and the school is now in a very difficult condition,” he said, calling for urgent support to restore the facility.
Fogbai appealed to government authorities, non-governmental organizations, and other stakeholders to provide emergency assistance for the rehabilitation of the damaged structures.
The incident has raised concerns among residents and parents, as pupils are currently without a safe and conducive learning environment.
An assessment of the full extent of the damage is yet to be completed, but community members remain hopeful that swift intervention will enable a quick return to normal schooling.
