Abubakar Sesay, a student, has been granted twenty thousand Leones bail with two sureties after he made his first appearance before Magistrate Santigie Bangura of Pademba Road Court No. 2 in Freetown on Tuesday, 1st October, 2024.

The accused Abubakarr Sesay was accused of allegedly impersonating as a police officer.

Sesay is standing trial before the court on two count charges of impersonation contrary to Section 3 of Cap 34 of as amended by Section 3 of the Impersonation and Uniform Amendment Act No.13 of 1975 and unlawful possession contrary to Section 13 (1) Cap 37 as amended by Section 5 of Act No.6 of 1981.

According to the charge sheet, Police alleged that the accused, on Sunday, 15th September 2024 in Freetown, not being a member of the Sierra Leone Police Force under assumed character was found wearing the Sierra Leone Police uniform without lawful authority.

Police further alleged that the accused person was also found with one pair of Sierra Leone Police rain coat jacket and one pair of Sierra Leone Police uniform trousers reasonably suspected to have been unlawfully obtained.

The accused Abubakarr Sesay pleaded not guilty of the offenses after the charges were read and explained to him by the Court Clerk.

The Prosecutor, Detective Police Constable 18235 Thoronka K.K. sought for a short adjournment indicating that the witnesses are absent in court.

Magistrate Bangura granted the accused person bail in the sum of twenty thousand Leones with two sureties in like sum and sureties must be resident in Freetown and must be responsible citizens. He ordered that bail should be approved by the Deputy assistant Registrar.

The matter was adjourned to the 21st October 2024 for further hearing.
