In a letter addressed to stakeholders, Honourable Komba Quee, Member of Parliament for the Kamaa Chiefdom, has announced the temporary suspension of all mining activities within the Chiefdom.
This decision comes in light of the grave illness of Paramount Chief Aian Melvin Ngekia, a revered figure in the community.
With the paramount chief’s health condition, the community is deeply saddened, and to honor his legacy, a ceremonial burial has been scheduled for April 14, 2024.
The suspension, effective from April 5, 2024, and indefinitely, aims to allow the community to focus on mourning the paramount chief and paying respects during this solemn period. The decision underscores the significance of tradition and custom within the Kamaa Chiefdom, highlighting the paramount chief’s pivotal role in the community’s cultural fabric.
The cooperation of mining stakeholders is sought during this sensitive time, recognizing the economic importance of their operations while prioritizing the community’s mourning process.
