Hawanatu Hawa Koroma has appeared before Magistrate Santigie Bangura at Pademba Road Court No. 1 on February 10, 2025, in continuation of the charge of the murder of her husband, Nabieu Bangura.

The prosecution alleges that on November 22, 2024, at Leicester Peak Junction in Freetown, Koroma doused her husband in fuel and set him on fire, leading to his death. The incident, described as a harrowing domestic tragedy, has left the city reeling.

During the court proceedings, Detective Police Constable 13274 Bangura H., a Scene of Crime Officer with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), testified as a key witness. He recounted visiting the crime scene and witnessing the autopsy of Nabieu Bangura at Connaught Hospital Mortuary on November 25, 2024. The deceased, identified by relatives, suffered severe burns that caused his death.

Detective Bangura presented a photographic album (Exhibit A1-14) containing images of the postmortem examination, taken by Sergeant 10601 Macarthy A.J. using a digital camera (Exhibit F). The photos documented the extent of the burns and were submitted as critical evidence in the case.

The defense, led by A.N.D. Musa Esq., cross-examined the detective in an attempt to challenge the evidence. However, Magistrate Bangura denied bail for Koroma, citing the gravity of the charges and the strength of the evidence. She was remanded to the female Correctional Facility in Freetown.

The trial has drawn widespread attention, with the community seeking answers about the motive and circumstances surrounding the tragic incident. The hearing is set to resume on February 17, 2025, as the case continues to unfold.
