Three persons have been arrested for possession of harmful drugs in the North Eastern Province of Makeni
The Police operational regional officer, ASP Ghanawa Turay, and his team in their quest to intensify the chase for drug peddlers in the country on Thursday, August 8, 2024, acting on a tip-off from a reliable source conducted a targeted raid at Teko Barracks Phase 2, Bottom Mango.
During the operation, the team successfully arrested three suspects: Adama Conteh, Abdulai Bah, and Isaac Daniel Tommy, all of them are residents of Teko Barracks Phase 2, Bottom Mango. Authorities seized a significant quantity of drugs, including:
A large amount of cannabis sativa (commonly known as Jamba), 476 wraps of cannabis sativa, One ounce of Kush, Two sachets of Kush and 220 wraps of Kush. The suspects and the seized drugs have been transported to the Regional Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
The arrest follows President Julius Maada Bio’s recent declaration of national emergency against synthetic drugs. “Our country is currently faced with an existential threat due to the ravaging impact of drugs and substance abuse, particularly the devastating synthetic drug Kush.” Bio said.
The president also directed officials to set up a National Task Force on Drugs and Substance Abuse, which will primarily focus on “combating the Kush crisis”. He said centers should be set up in every district and “adequately staffed by trained professionals to offer care and support to people with drug addiction”.
The raid at Teko Barracks Phase 2, Bottom Mango was part of the process to eradicate synthetic drugs in the country.
