Traditional leaders of Kono District have summon Ariyogbo, the spiritual investigator of Kono, to look into the severe thunderstorm incident that struck late last night, which claimed the lives of three individuals in the community.
The storm, which began around 11:00 PM, was characterized by heavy rainfall and intense lightning.
Eyewitnesses reported that the victims were outdoors when they were struck by lightning. Despite the swift response from community members, all three individuals were pronounced dead at the scene.
In light of the tragedy, local authorities have called upon Ariyogbo to investigate the circumstances surrounding the lightning strike. The decision reflects the community’s cultural beliefs that such events may hold deeper spiritual significance.
A local chief expressed the community’s trust in their customs, stating, “We trust in our customs and believe Ariyogbo’s guidance will help us understand this tragedy.”
As the community mourns, burial arrangements for the deceased are currently being discussed. Chiefdom elders and family members have urged residents to remain calm and vigilant during the ongoing rainy season.
Authorities have also advised the public to exercise caution, particularly in avoiding open fields, tall trees, and metal objects during thunderstorms.
