In the early hours of Tuesday morning, a fire broke out in Allen Town, East of Freetown, destroying two newly imported vehicles under circumstances that remain unclear.
The incident occurred near the Total fuel station around midnight, sparking concern and confusion among residents.
According to eyewitnesses, the vehicles were parked when the flames erupted, swiftly engulfing both cars and reducing them to charred remains. Efforts by bystanders to contain the blaze proved futile before emergency services arrived.
Preliminary information indicates that the vehicles had been cleared from Water Quay just the day before and were in transit to their final destination. The vehicles reportedly belong to a Sierra Leonean national currently residing overseas, who had imported them in preparation for a visit to the country. The owner is said to be unaware of the incident at this time.
Authorities from the Sierra Leone Police and National Fire Force have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the fire. While the exact origin of the blaze has not been confirmed, officials are treating the incident as suspicious until further evidence is gathered.
No casualties or injuries were reported. However, the destruction of the vehicles represents a significant financial loss.
The public is urged to provide any information that may assist investigators in uncovering the circumstances surrounding the incident. Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
