An accident along the Rutile Road on Thursday left two people dead and several passengers stranded, highlighting long-standing concerns about road safety and the absence of reliable emergency medical response systems in the area.
According to eyewitness accounts, the incident involved a commercial vehicle travelling toward the mining district. The vehicle reportedly lost control, resulting in a fatal crash that claimed the lives of two occupants on the spot. Other passengers were left in shock and unable to continue their journey as they waited for assistance that came much later than needed.
The Rutile Road, a major route supporting one of the country’s most significant mineral extraction zones, has long been criticized for its deteriorating condition. Despite the daily transportation of mineral resources from the area, communities have repeatedly expressed frustration over what they describe as inadequate infrastructure investment and lack of safety measures.
Residents and commuters say the latest accident underscores a broader issue: the absence of a functional emergency roadside medical response system.
Local authorities have yet to issue a detailed statement, but the incident has reignited calls for improved road maintenance, stricter transport safety regulations, and the establishment of emergency medical services along major mining corridors.
