The Welfare Society for the Disabled (WESOFOD), with support from Trocaire through the SIOBHAN Education for All project, has provided financial aid to 12 parents of children living with disabilities in Pujehun town.

The disbursement took place at the organization’s district office on Gbondapi Road.

Joseph Alieu, Executive Director of WESOFOD and National President of the Sierra Leone Union on Disability Issues (SLUDI), explained that the financial support is intended to strengthen the small businesses of these parents, thereby enabling them to better care for their children with disabilities. Each beneficiary received a grant of NLe 400.

“This is not the first time WESOFOD has extended such support to disabled children and their parents in Pujehun. We remain committed to staying in Pujehun and advocating for the best interests of people with disabilities,” Alieu said. He urged the beneficiaries to use the funds judiciously for their children’s benefit.

Mohamed Sillah, WESOFOD’s District Coordinator for Pujehun, clarified that the financial aid is a grant, not a loan. He noted that the initiative forms part of a year-long project that commenced in February 2024 and will conclude in February 2025. Sillah encouraged parents to continue providing quality care for their children, emphasizing that “disability is not an inability.”

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Antonet Mariama Gbenga expressed profound gratitude for the support. She affirmed that the financial aid would significantly enhance their small businesses and promised to use the funds effectively.

This initiative underscores WESOFOD’s dedication to empowering families of children with disabilities, fostering a nurturing environment that supports their growth and development.
