Residents of a remote village in the Kholifa Magbam Chiefdom report being terrorized by alleged witchcraft and demonic activities, leading to nights spent in a mosque for refuge and the intervention of a senior traditional healer.
The situation in Komrabai Chuku village escalated on the night of September 20, 2025, when frightened villagers abandoned their homes to seek safety in a local mosque, fearing supernatural attacks, according to local accounts.
Pa Mancha, the Chairman of the Council of Traditional Healers in Sierra Leone, stated he was recently summoned by the community’s elders to identify and apprehend the spiritual entities believed to be responsible. He claimed his spiritual screening revealed that “witches would not allow the locals to sleep in peace” and were also causing poor agricultural harvests.
“The dead woman was believed to have transformed into a witch,” Pa Mancha told Awoko on Wednesday, describing how he spiritually captured the spirit of a buried woman named Sampa in a remote part of the town.
He further explained that when a corpse is accused of such activities, traditional investigations can lead to a order for the body to be exhumed and burned to protect the community.
In the same vein, villagers reported a violent incident between September 10 and 16, 2025, in which a young man allegedly slaughtered another local.
The Mile-91 Police Division has confirmed it is investigating the case. However, locals expressed concerns that a lack of consistent police presence in the area makes enforcing justice difficult.
