The University of Management and Technology has announced that the World Bank Group Country Manager for Sierra Leone, Dr. Abdu Muwonge, will deliver a special lecture as part of the university’s ongoing Research Seminar Series.
The event forms part of UNIMTECH’s broader effort to deepen academic engagement with global development institutions and policy leaders. According to the university, the seminar will focus on the role of the World Bank in advancing economic development, reducing poverty, and strengthening governance institutions in Sierra Leone and other low-income economies.
During the session, Dr. Muwonge is expected to provide insights into how international financial institutions support national development priorities through funding, policy advice, and technical assistance. Participants will also have the opportunity to engage directly with the World Bank official during an interactive question-and-answer session following the lecture.
The announcement comes as UNIMTECH prepares to host another high-profile speaker from the International Monetary Fund. The IMF Country Representative to Sierra Leone, Wayne Mitchell, is scheduled to deliver a presentation on March 18 as part of the same seminar series.
University officials say the lecture by Dr. Muwonge will take place shortly after the IMF engagement, with the exact date to be confirmed in the coming weeks.
The Research Seminar Series is designed to provide a platform for academics, policymakers, development partners, and students to examine critical economic and governance issues affecting Sierra Leone.
Organisers say the initiative aims to strengthen policy dialogue and expose students to real-world development perspectives from leading global institutions.
Attendance at the seminar will be open to university staff, students, policymakers, and members of the public, with options for both in-person participation and virtual access.
