Communities across Mile 91, Kholifa Mabang, and Malal are mourning the death of Nurse Esther Kamara, one of the most respected and longest-serving health workers in Yoni Chiefdom, who passed away on September 1, 2025.
For decades, Nurse Kamara was a household name, known for her dedication to maternal health and her tireless service to women and children. She was regarded as a lifeline for poor families, especially expectant mothers who relied on her expertise to safely deliver their babies.
Community members described her as more than a nurse she was a symbol of hope. Many prominent individuals in the chiefdom proudly recall that they were delivered by her skilled hands, a testament to her enduring impact on the region’s health and wellbeing.
“Her passing is not only a loss to her family but to the entire chiefdom. She gave herself selflessly to serve others,” one community elder told reporters.
Nurse Kamara’s influence stretched far beyond the delivery room. Through her compassion and professionalism, she built trust among people who often had little access to formal healthcare. Her name became synonymous with safety and care, and her commitment earned her admiration across generations.
Though her absence leaves a void, residents say her legacy will live on in the countless lives she touched and in the inspiration she gave to younger health practitioners.
As the community comes to terms with the loss, plans are underway to honor her memory for her decades of service in Yoni Chiefdom.
