Zainab Sheriff, a Member of the All People’s Congress (APC) Party and Chairperson of the “We Duty” movement, has been reportedly denied bail and will remain in detention for another three days following her court appearance on Monday.

Sheriff made her first appearance at Pademba Road Court No. 1 on February 23, 2026, after being brought before the court from police custody. The ruling was delivered by Magistrate Brima Jah, who ordered that she be remanded pending further proceedings.

According to proceedings in court, Sheriff has been formally charged with two counts of incitement and threatening language, offences said to be contrary to the laws of Sierra Leone. The details of the allegations were not extensively outlined during Monday’s sitting.

Magistrate Jah declined to grant bail and ordered that Sheriff be remanded at the correctional facility. The matter has been adjourned to February 26, 2026, when the case is expected to resume.

Sheriff’s remand means she will spend at least 72 more hours in detention at the Pademba Road Prison as the court continues to hear the matter.

The case is being heard at Pademba Road Court No. 1 in Freetown. Further developments are expected when proceedings reconvene later this week.
