13-year-old juvenile victim, Kadiatu Sesay (not her name), on Friday 9th December, 2022 testified in court on an alleged sexual penetration matter.
Abubakarr Koroma is charged of one count of sexual penetration under Section 19 of the Sexual Offenses Act 2019, Act No. 12 of 2012, which was repealed and replaced by Section 4 of the Sexual Amendment Act 2019, Act No. 8 of 2019, before Judge Momo-Jah Stevens.
The Particulars of the offense state that between June 1 and June 30, 2022, in Freetown, the accused Abubakarr Koroma was reportedly caught participating in sexual penetration with a girl who was not of legal age to agree.
State Counsel attorney Pious Jr., who represented the victim, cross-examined three additional witnesses, including the two victims.
The 13-year-old witness knew the defendant as her uncle and remembered how, on June 30, he had sexually assaulted her.
She added that the accused had called her into his room, removed her pant, and placed his penis inside her vagina while her mother was at the market conducting business.
She was allegedly threatened by the defendant if she told anybody about the act.
The witness proceeded by saying that she later told her mother, who did not contact the police, visit the hospital, or go to the Rainbow Center.
The same explanation was provided by PW1, the first prosecution witness.
DPC 12249 is a detective police constable. The victims and the accused were recognized by Sara Conteh, a member of the Family Support Unit at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Headquarters in Freetown, who also remembered that on June 21, 2022, when she was on duty, her boss had told her about the case.
Accordingly, the event took place at the Benguma Primary School in Waterloo and was reported to the Waterloo Police Station.
The witness for the prosecution added that they visited the school and spoke with the victim.
The accused who confessed during an interrogation with Detective Police Constable 14160 Conteh F.
The victims were given a medical request form, which they later returned and signed.
The matter was adjourned to 19th December, 2022.
