More than 2,450 Sierra Leoneans who were stranded abroad have returned home, thanks to a collaborative program led by the European Union (EU), the International Organization for Migration (IOM), and the Government of Sierra Leone.

The return program, part of the Migrant Protection, Return, and Reintegration Programme for Sub-Saharan Africa (MPRR-SSA), aims to assist vulnerable migrants in safely returning to their home countries.

Recently, the IOM and its partners held a Steering Committee Meeting on Migrant Protection to discuss ways to enhance the reintegration process and ensure that returnees receive adequate support.

The migrants, who faced challenging conditions while abroad, are now receiving assistance to reintegrate into Sierra Leonean society. This support includes financial aid, job training, and housing assistance to help them rebuild their lives.

Sierra Leone’s Minister of Foreign Affairs praised the efforts of the EU, IOM, and all stakeholders involved, emphasizing the significance of such programs for the country’s growth and stability.
