The drug store of Sierra Leone’s 34 Military Hospital was gutted by fire in the early hours of Tuesday, April 15, 2025.

The medical facility, which is currently undergoing an upgrade, is a major healthcare hub in Sierra Leone, combining its role in providing medical services with a growing focus on research, training, and specialized care.

Eyewitnesses say the blaze reportedly originated from the medical store, where essential medicines were being stored. However, the National Fire Force responded, containing the fire and preventing it from spreading to other parts of the hospital

The cause of the fire is not known as of press time.

This incident adds to a growing number of fire outbreaks recently reported across Sierra Leone, raising serious concerns about public safety, infrastructure resilience, and emergency preparedness.

On Saturday, a similar fire incident occurred at State House, the official office of Sierra Leone’s President in Freetown.
