John Alie Sankoh on Thursday, 15th December 2022, was convicted and sentenced to 5 years imprisonment for housebreaking contrary to the law of Sierra Leone.
The accused person was arraigned before the court on one count charge of house breaking and larceny contrary to section 25 (1) 2 of the Larceny Act 1916 and Section 13 (a) of the Larceny Act 1916.
The charge sheet indicated that the accused on the 29th September 2020, in Freetown entered into the house of the complainant and steal therein properties and money to the total value of two Million three hundred and fifty thousand Leones property of Samuel Karankey Conteh.
Delivery of the judgment, Justice Monfred Sesay, said the accused on the night of the incident the complainant’s daughter saw him at the back of the compound at around 2am.
He said when he shouted thief at the accused, the accused too started shouting thief, he said the accused removed his cloth and defecated.
He said the prosecution has proven their case beyond all reasonable doubt against the accused person John Alie Sankoh on one count of housebreaking and Larceny.
In her plea mitigation for and on behalf of accused, defence Lawyer R.S Bangura, from the Legal Aid Board, also stressed that the accused is a young man with a lot of potentials, thus pleading with the presiding judge to temper justice with mercy, adding that the accused must have learnt his lesson while on remand at the Pademba Road Male Correction Centre.
However, Justice Monfred Sesay sentenced the accused person to five years imprisonment including time spent in prison.
