The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) is set to begin a nationwide public education and stakeholder engagement tour targeting Paramount Chiefs and Chiefdom Authorities in the Eastern Region on 3rd, 4th, and 11th February 2026. The initiative aims to strengthen accountability, transparency, and ethical leadership within Sierra Leone’s traditional governance structures.
The engagement, themed “Strengthening Integrity in the Traditional Governance Architecture,” seeks to reinforce the role of traditional leaders as custodians of community trust, justice, land administration, and local governance, positioning them as key partners in the national fight against corruption.
Deputy Commissioner of the ACC, Augustine Foday Ngobie, emphasized the significance of traditional leadership in Sierra Leone’s governance framework. “Paramount Chiefs and Chiefdom Authorities occupy positions of immense influence and trust.
Strengthening accountability in traditional governance is essential to protecting community resources, preserving public confidence, and safeguarding national development,” he said.
According to the ACC, the tour will focus on enhancing awareness of corruption risks in chiefdom administration, including the management of land, customary court fines, community revenues, and development resources. The engagement will also provide a platform for dialogue, education, and experience-sharing between the ACC and traditional authorities.
Mr. Ngobie highlighted that corruption at the local level undermines service delivery, fuels conflict, and weakens social cohesion. “The fight against corruption is a national fight. The ACC cannot win this battle alone. It requires bold, principled, and patriotic leadership from our traditional authorities,” he added.
The ACC affirmed its commitment to working closely with traditional and local authorities to preserve the integrity and dignity of the chieftaincy institution, ensuring that traditional governance reflects values of fairness, justice, and accountability. Details of the regional tour, including specific locations, will be announced as the engagement progresses.
