The Government of Sierra Leone through Ministry of Lands Housing and Country Planning (MHCP), has on Tuesday, 31 January, 2023 signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the The Gambian-based estate construction company, TAF Global Limited for the construction of 5,000 affordable and quality homes for Sierra Leoneans.
The Minister of Lands, Dr. Turad Senessie told pressmen that the government of President Julius Maada Bio is pleased to officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), with the Gambian-based company, adding that, the agreement provides for the construction of 5,000 quality and affordable homes for every Sierra Leonean who wishes to secure a quality and less-expensive home to live.
He disclosed that the government has willingly allocated a huge piece of land for the construction of the said homes, along Sierra Leone’s Peninsula. John Obey community is the place the government handed out to the construction company to carry out with the massive infrastructural development, which will undoubtedly, give the country and the Peninsula, a new facelift, as well as, attract a considerable number of Sierra Leoneans, who, are jam-packed in the Western Area.
Dr. Senessie expressed further that the project is a vital segment of his Ministry’s Smart Micro City Initiative which will concentrate not only on planning the city but, building affordable and quality houses for the citizens. These 5,000 housing facility would save a lot of citizens who are suffering in the hands of some heartless landlords in the capital city (Freetown).
Speaking on the side of the TAF Global Construction Company, the CEO Mustapha Njie, expressed his utmost gratitude to the government of President Bio, and the minister for providing a smooth process for them to invest in affordable homes for Sierra Leoneans.
He asserted that the company is equally satisfied with the location where they will construct the quality homes, adding that, the company will ensure that the homes are delivered within the timeframe of the project.
He added that the project will create more employment opportunities for competent Sierra Leoneans and will help boost the country’s local content.
CEO Njie disclosed that the work will soon kick-off and the 5000 houses will be reasonable to all categories of Sierra Leoneans.
“Be you poor or rich, you will be able to secure an apartment,” he noted.
