The All People’s Congress (APC) has strongly refuted reports circulating on social media suggesting the introduction of new and controversial criteria for its upcoming internal elections, including a purported 20% weighting for “loyalty and party service.”

In a telephone interview with Politico, Abdul Karim Kamara, a member of the APC Publicity team, dismissed the claims as “false and deliberately misleading.” He emphasized that the party’s electoral guidelines are strictly based on its 2022 Constitution and are not created arbitrarily.

“The party does not operate without structure. The Secretariat, led by the National Secretary General, is responsible for drafting and managing the rules for elections at all levels.

These rules are constitutionally grounded and not developed overnight,” Kamara stated. He described the social media reports as “garbage” aimed at confusing the public and undermining the party’s credibility.

Kamara also clarified that there is no official framework awarding weightings based on party loyalty. “I saw the claims myself on social media, but they were never produced or endorsed by the APC. Today, anyone can type anything online and present it as if it came from the party,” he said, highlighting the rise of misinformation.

Addressing separate false reports that the Political Parties Regulation Commission (PPRC) had ordered the APC to reinstate former Vice President Samuel Sam Sumana, Kamara called the claims “completely fictitious,” noting that no such directive has been issued.

He urged supporters and the public to rely on official party communications for accurate information, reiterating that the APC has not introduced any new criteria for its internal elections. “The party has not developed or approved any new guidelines of the nature being speculated. As far as we are concerned, those so-called criteria are not part of our electoral framework,” he affirmed.

Kamara concluded by stressing the importance of verifying information through legitimate channels and not falling prey to social media propaganda as the APC prepares for its upcoming elections.
