The Spokesman for the interim leadership Committee of the opposition All People’s Congress (APC) party says his committee has nothing to do with a recent post on social media that stated an upfront non-refundable payment of 500 million Leones for members aspiring for the party’s presidential ticket.
Bumneh Bangura told Politico that “at no time did a directive of that nature come from the 21-member committee”, noting that “social media these days is inundated with all sorts of posts”.
Bangura refused to be further drawn on an issue that has already caused quite a stir in APC circles, considering the huge sum of money being suggeste.
A Twitter post by former presidential aspirant for the party, Joseph Fitzgerald Kamara in which he described the fees as “preposterous” has generated a lot of debate. When politico reached him for further comments he wouldn’t further explain any aspect of the contentious issue. “Go to my tweet and you can figure it out for yourself”. When Politico suggested to him that he could readily afford that amount of money, replied saying: “The argument is not about me. What about the others?”
Insisting his tweet was in front of him and was reading straight from it he said: “the 500, 000.000 Leones fee for APC flag bearer position is preposterous and unwelcome in a country where the GDP is less than $1.00 a day”. He said he was getting calls for interviews but could only direct people to his tweet and on a parting note excludes ordinary note Kamara said: ”
The fees are exorbitant; that is all. Such a move excludes ordinary folks. The Origin of the post on the fee remains a mystery and it comes at a time the APC is readjusting itself after an acrimonious intra-party litigation
