Hon. Daniel Brima Koroma, Deputy Leader of the All People’s Congress (APC) in Parliament, has called for a united legislative effort to tackle corruption in Sierra Leone. In an interview with the Voice of Africa, Koroma emphasized the urgent need for bipartisan cooperation to address financial mismanagement and the misuse of state funds by government institutions.

Koroma’s remarks come in response to the recent actions of the Parliamentary Public Accounts Committee (PAC), which has launched a regional campaign to recover stolen and misused funds. He highlighted the importance of strengthening the legislative framework to hold government officials accountable and stressed that meaningful progress in the fight against corruption can only be achieved through collective action from all lawmakers.

“The fight against corruption must start within Parliament,” Koroma stated, urging his colleagues to set aside political differences for the greater good. He argued that the current laws are skewed in favor of those in power, calling for reforms to ensure a fairer legal framework that benefits the entire country.

Koroma also raised concerns about the ongoing constitutional review process, pointing out that while the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) has been notified, the opposition has yet to be included in discussions. He emphasized the need for provisions that would allow the removal of underperforming presidential appointees, holding them accountable for their duties.

In conclusion, the APC Deputy Leader reiterated the importance of enforcing strong and fair legislative measures to ensure the retrieval of stolen assets and the implementation of appropriate penalties for offenders.
