The main opposition party, All Peoples Party Congress (APC) has disclosed that they had discussed several issues that are undermining the democracy, peace and stability of the country with the Congressional Delegation from the United States of America on Sunday, 20th February 2022.
According to a press release issued on Wednesday 23 February, APC informed its members and the general public that they had had fruitful discussions with the US Congressional Delegation.
The representatives of the Party discussed several issues with the delegation that are undermining the democracy, peace and stability of our beloved country to wit:
• The unconstitutional imposition of the Speaker of Parliament;
• The unconstitutional removal of our duly elected APC Members of Parliament and their replacement with unelected runners – up from the SLPP Party;
• The Sierra Leone Police, a force that is being slowly transformed into a ‘Regime Protection Force” and their engagement in serious human rights violations mostly directed at opposition members; such as the killings in Tonko Limba, Makeni, Tombo, Lunsar, Gbondapi, Mile 91, and Pademba Road Prison Massacre among others;
• The unlawful arrests and detention of opposition party members and the politically motivated harassment of senior members of the APC Party;
• The blatant rigging and manipulation of elections by staff members of the National Electoral Commission;
• The uneven dispensation of justice by the Judiciary was among many issues discussed with the delegation;
• Finally, the APC is comforted by the demonstrable interest shown by the delegation to our fledgling democracy and wishes to express its appreciation to Congressman Gregory Meeks and members of his delegation for the opportunity to hear from opposition parties.”
The APC further assured the International Community and the people of Sierra Leone of its commitment to the rule of law, democracy, peace, good governance and national cohesion.
