The 21-man Technical Planning Committee of the All People’s Congress (APC) and the party’s National Secretariat, under the supervision of the Political Parties Registration Commission (PPRC) have fully complied with the six court orders issued out by Justice Adrian Fisher on 9th August, 2021, paving the way for the party to hold its Emergency Delegates Convention to adopt its new draft Constitution.
Speaking at a press briefing held at the party’s headquarters on Old Railway Line, Brookfield, Feeetown, yesterday, member of the Media Team of the 21-Man Technical Planning Committee, Karamoh Kabba, informed pressmen about said development which comes following a concern raised by petitioner, Alfred Peter Conteh who complained to the PPRC about some irregularities in the process.
He furthered that the 6 court orders were completed under strict timeline issued out to the party to undertaker the planning, preparation and coordination of the Emergency Delegates Convention slated for 17th to the 18th of September, 2021.
According to Karamoh Kabba, ahead of the planned Makeni convention, the party had formed the 21-Man Technical Planning Committee as ordered by the High Court and has ensured that the National Secretariat provide unfettered access to the resources of the party in order to facilitate the smooth running of the committee.
He also noted that the National Secretary General has published the original draft constitution in two local newspapers and served copies to the court, the PPRC chairman and the solicitors for Alfred Peter Conteh, adding that the draft constitution has also been made available at the party Headquarter in Freetown.
Furthermore, the party, he noted, has completed the holding of internal elections of five delegates in each of the 125 constituencies held elections of 20 delegates for the Women’s Wing and the National Youth League and also publish and handover the delegates list to concerned stakeholders.
However, according to Karamoh Kabba, the party and the 21-Man Committee was unable to hold elections in 7 constituencies in Kambia, Bo and Kono districts due to some reported challenges in those areas, as there were reports of violence and protest in the process.
He continued that when the violence incidents were reported, the Committee met with PPRC and after consultations it was resolved that there will be no re-run of elections in the affected constituencies.
Karamoh Kabba stated that the decision to cancel the re-run elections was due to the strict timeline set by the court and also because the court did not call for a re-run, stressing that any re-run should be determined by the court.
He therefore warned all APC members to desist from any other campaign activities during the Makeni convention, noting that the court order calls for a sole agenda, and other office bearer banners, paraphernalia and support group activities at the convention. According to him, any breach of the court order will be tantamount to contempt of court.
Finally, the APC Secretariat informed all the factions within the party have ceased operation and are now rallying under one umbrella.
